This Week's Head to Head

Like most collectors I frequently change/modify my collecting goals; favorite player, favorite base set, favorite insert, etc. The first matchup is between the 92-93 Stadium Club Beam Team and the 93-94 Upper Deck SE Die Cut All-Stars. Condition: Beam Team - That popular die cutting and gold foil edge is the downfall of the All-Stars. I repeatedly see samples online (and in my own collection) that have both severe chipping issues on the top edges and bottom corners as well as centering issues that are more than apparent (as with the Beam Team cards, but I'd prefer off center to chipped anytime) Design: SE All-Stars - Beam Team is probably the best set Topps ever design (but that's not saying much), but, in my opinion, nobody beats Upper Deck on design. Great idea to represent the court diagram for the background. Star Ratio: Beam Team - Upper deck limited themselves buy formulating their set with 20 stars and 10 "future" stars leaving out a lot of fan favorites. Odds: Tie - Both were inserted one per box. Result: Beam Team
